Timisoara submitted its candidacy for the title of European Capital of Culture in 2021
Friday, August 12, 2016, Timisoara submitted the final candidacy bid for the competition for the title of European Capital of Culture in 2021 with the Ministry of Culture, under the concept and slogan ‘Shine your light – Light up your city!’
The Timisoara European Capital of Culture Association wishes to thank all its collaborators and citizens for their involvement and support, and wishes to ask everybody to stay united.
“To Timisoara, this candidacy meant the unification of its community around an ambitious goal, generating a solid ground of civic support throughout the entire process, and benefitting from the political support that is required of such a pursuit. Thus, the preparation of the bid, with all its stages and evolutions, gave us an honest point of view over the city’s history and recent past, which allowed for a better understanding of the presented context and events, for taking liability, in full awareness and engagement, for the common future of this continent, based on European values.
Regardless of the final result of this competition, Timisoara will play its part in strengthening the role of culture from a social, economic and human relations standpoint, at a local, regional, national and European level, with faith in culture’s ability to generate change, stimulate creation, fulfill and beautify lives,” says Simona Neumann, the Executive Director of the Timisoara European Capital of Culture Association.
The final selection stage (the jury visit and interview) will take place during the first part of September this year, and on September 16, the Romanian city selected as European Capital of Culture for 2021 will be announced
