In December 2015, Timisoara was shortlisted among other Romanian cities entering the second stage of the competition for the title of European Capital of Culture in 2021. Timisoara’s bid convinced the expert jury that the city deserves to continue the race, together with Baia Mare, Bucharest and Cluj-Napoca.
For the second stage of the candidacy, the TM2021 team focuses its activities on refining the existing concept – Shine your light! Light up your city! – and the conclusion of solid local and European partnerships, based on the recommendations of the expert jury, as formulated in the report published at the end of January this year.
The Thursday meetings aim to involve the local artistic community, from specialists in the field of cultural and creative industries (design, publishing, IT, film, performance art, music) to artists, young creators and NGOs. They include a brief presentation of the candidacy key points and focus on debates in work groups.
During February 11 – March 3 2016, on every Thursday, starting with 6PM, cultural operators in Timisoara are invited at the headquarters of Timisoara European Capital of Culture Association, Maria Theresia Bastion (4 Martin Luther Street, Building B1, 1st floor) in order to work together with the TM2021 team for the improvement of the cultural program.
“We believe that the crowdsourcing process that gave birth to the ideas that the file is based on must continue. Thus, we would like to invite again cultural operators in Timisoara to come talk to us, in order to complete and expand the existing cultural program, and identify local partners and organizers for 2021,” say the members of the cultural program.
